Learn how Ocean Corals & Reptiles began
From small beginnings, for the love of corals, fish and reptiles
We were originally created as Ocean Corals in 2009 by Paul, a joiner by trade with a passion for marine aquatics. In January 2009 he set up a small workshop in Clifton Moor to cultivate and sell corals originally from his own collection; the shop was so successful that he quickly started stocking marine fish and dry goods as well, recruited staff, and expanded into the neighbouring workshop to support more stock.

We were originally created as Ocean Corals in 2009 by Paul, a joiner by trade with a passion for marine aquatics. In January 2009 he set up a small workshop in Clifton Moor to cultivate and sell corals originally from his own collection; the shop was so successful that he quickly started stocking marine fish and dry goods as well, recruited staff, and expanded into the neighbouring workshop to support more stock.
Suppliers could see how successful the shop was and wanted their products in! By February 2015, the shop was booming and Paul had more time free to look into his other passion, reptile keeping and breeding – and so OceanCorals became Ocean Corals and Reptiles, with another move to a new premises with more space to stock a wide range of reptiles, enclosures and dry goods! With a fantastic team behind him, Paul was able to expand premises again in 2018 to start stocking tropical fish as well, and then take a step back from the business to focus on his ball python breeding hobby – which he has now grown into a very successful business, Urban Constrictors!
In 2021, Paul decided he needed to focus all his attention on his family and Urban Constrictors! And so the discussion with Ben began, a regular customer turned good friend, to discuss handing over the reins to Ocean Corals and Reptiles. Ben took over ownership in November 2021, wanting to bring some new ideas and directions to the shop while still respecting the roots that brought the business to the amazing place that it is today. Georgia also joined the team in early 2022, bringing lots of expertise to our reptile section. In September 2022 we made the decision to expand our reptile section to make sure we have the best range of products and that our animals get the best care while they are with us, before finding their forever homes with you!

This is genuinely one of the most amazing pretty stores. All the fish and reptiles have nice tanks/cages. Look very clean, well-kept and corals and all animals and fish looked pretty healthy. Staff were lovely, helpful and attentive.

Fantastic place! Knowledgeable staff and great shop floor layout. Animals all look well looked after. Enclosures are clean and appropriate size wise. Highly recommended for fish and reptile lovers of all ages.
